Carnevale di Venezia

Piazza San Marco at sunrise.

Most of the costumed people in these are locals or tourists who come to Venice and dress up in elaborate costumes. They walk around San Marco at sunrise and sunset to pose for the many, many photographers and tourists who come to see them. It makes for a dramatic backdrop against the Grand Canal, the gondolas, the light at sunrise and sunset, and the church on the opposite island. These are some of the more elaborately dressed people, but the costumes of Carnevale come in many varieties.

All photos shot with Sony A7RII and lightly edited in Lightroom.
